I need you to as Pritam cameras the price of this lens
Tokina 11-16 F2.8 for CANON mount.

Online from smartshopper.in this is available for around 25K with 1 year international warranty. I wanted to know if Chandni chowk prices are cheaper!

I too was looking for this lens....

Delhi guys were asking for 28 K.. Jatin and Deepak advised me that the price was too high.. smartshoppers do not have this on their stock.. do not know when it will be available.. You can ring them up and find out ( No available at the website)

You are right JT. While the prices of the bodies are tumbling even officially, those of the lenses seem to be heading to a moon mission. How wicked!

Hi guys,I need some info on the pricing of the following lenses
1. Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6 canon mount
2. Tamron 10-24 F3.5-5.6 Canon mount.
I am looking for a wide angle lens, and have given up on the Tokinas due to limited range. I guess I will get one of either sigma and tamron.

The only question however is the price!
Please help! Any indicators on price at chandni chowk?

The decision of going in for both above wud be personally ur choice , For me Tokina is a better bet .. However , 2 months back the price of Sigma 10-20 was somewhere near 25 K .

Tokina was my original choice, but I am leaning towards Tamron due to
1. Better zoom range
2. Amazing center sharpness. Since I shoot mostly landscapes around F5.6 I don't care about the F2.8 I am going to shoot landscapes only
3. Tokina gives hot spot with IR filter on.

All right for u it might work better then ....I know u are fond of IR .But the sweet spot of a 2.8 lens wud be somewhere 5.6 . But if the lens widest at a zoom is 5.6 then the shapness wud be better at f/8 or so ...isnt it ??
Do let me know about the prices as well .....U can call up Mr Sanjay Maggo 98111-71054 , give my reference . He is a nice chap at Palika .

Well I called up Fotopoint at Chandni chowk, who are the official dealers of tamron. They say that the lens is currently out of stock, and will take atleast 15 days for next shipment to come in.
Price is expected to be around 25K.
Its available at smarshopper.in for 25K, so I am guessing 1K lower at chandni chowk.
As for the sweet spot, this lens is biting sharp at center even wide open.
Just see this!
http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/tam ... /page3.asp

With 10-24, I do not need to keep changing lenses as I would with 11-16 2.8. I have a non dust protected DSLR, so lens change is trouble many times :)

The Sigma 10-20 is readily available from Pritam studios for 23500.
However, the Tamron 10-24 is not available even with the official dealer yet. I have asked Sanjay from Palika bazaar to tell me about the pricing of the Tamron.
However, the website smarshopper.in has the tamron 10-24 in stock for approx 25500(inclusive of shipping)

ha ha haaa ....
let me laugh loud before i could narrate the incident. india seems to be picking up on the lines of US for web-shopping but lags far behind due to seriousness and professional approach towards the same.

i was interested in Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO Lens which was listed on shartshoppers with status in stock. By chance i called them to confirm the mount and was shocked to see their knowledge and handling of my basic queries.

they were more than interested in me making the payment without giving a clear picture whether or not the lens was in stock. after making 5-6 calls i understood clearly that these guys are really not upto the mark and not clear in what they say and do.

they also said they would refund the amount in case lens is out of stock and doesn't get delivered in ___ timeframe. blanks were not filled by their gol-mole conversation ever.

Strong Advice :- stay away from any deals with smartshoppers. better go to chandni or china chowk and pay 1000 extra and buy stuff which is in front of you.

The smartshoppers.in appears to be full of nincompoops. Recently, a close friend of mine ordered a Nikon D5000+ 18-55 VR Kit from them on my guidance. After a couple of days he got a mail asking him to send scanned copies of his Credit Card and Address Proof. This, after the card-holder's Bank (Citibank) had confirmed having credited the smartshoppers.in's account instantaneously. Needless to say, both of us were p****d no ends, what with both of us being discerning bankers. I wrote them a mail which I'm sure would have made them want to wet their pants. My friend received the goods immediately afterwards without further query.

I have to make following observations about them based on a couple of dealings with them:

1. The first, second or the third person who picks up the phone is incapable of conversing either in English or Hindi. All you can make out is some incomprehensible gibberish.

2. They have this strong subverted notion of administrative control: They approve and they authorise the orders that we place with them! Wish someone could explain to them that it is because of our approval of their offer and our authorising an advance payment through a credit/debit card that they are in business!!

3. Even after personally advising certain supposedly 'senior' people there, they have not stopped selling "Nikon 60mm 2.8 VR G Lens" for Rs.27,045/-. The trouble is, the said lens doesn't have VR! Nikon would surely be very proud of smartshoppers.in.
Do check it out: http://www.smartshoppers.in/product/nikon-60mm-28-vr-g-lens/
Do you see a VR lens there? O, the picture pertains to Nikkor 105mm 2.8 ED VR!

That's right. They don't understand much about photography stuff.

Unfortunately, however, there aren't many other reliable sources. Mouthshut.com has a rather horrendous review of JJ Mehta chaps: the tale appears to be true and scary. If you import from bhphoto the customs will get you if the shipping doesn't.

What sayest thou?
